Mark and Christine York

Mark and Christine York, owners of River Bend Farms, are first generation farmers doing business in Indiana.  River Bend Farms started in 1996 with a 4000 head wean to finish hog operation.  Mark and Christine are a husband/wife team which is very important for the success of the operation.  Two years later they purchased 8000 more wean to finish floor space and operate it as a team.  They take great pride in their neighbors and their community by being conscience of other people and contribute when they can.  They feel passionate about the pork industry and feel “Pork Protein for the Planet” is a good thing.  Some activities they are also involved in would be Indiana Pork, Wabash County Farm Bureau, PCARET, and First Brethren Church North Manchester.  After the 12,000 head, they own and operate over 500 acres and work full time as a Sales Representative for Hog Slat Inc. for Northern Indiana.  In 2010 they were nominated by their neighbors to be the “Farm Family of the Year” for Wabash County.  They take great pride in being nominated by their neighbors.   Mark York is a Purdue graduate in Ag Economics and enjoys following Purdue sports.

Statistic:  River Bend Farms produces 25,000 pigs per year, the average consumer consumes 50 lbs of pork / year, a pig produce about 200 lbs of protein, so the case can be made we at River Bend Farm feed over 100,000 people every year.  We take pride and a charge of great responsibility in that small story!!
